A lot of the houses we rewire in Saddar Rawalpindi are 25 to 40 years old, and the wiring inside them tells the story of decades of small additions — an extra socket here, a rerouted circuit there, none of it done to a single plan. Individually, none of those changes seem risky. Together, they're one of the most common reasons we get called out for a full rewire.
Signs your Saddar home may need a rewire
Before recommending a full rewire, we look for a specific set of warning signs. If more than one of these applies to your home, it's worth getting an inspection:
- Breakers trip frequently, especially when running two or three appliances at once.
- Switch plates or sockets feel warm to the touch, or show slight discoloration.
- Lights flicker when a heavier appliance like an iron or water heater turns on.
- A faint burning smell near outlets or the distribution board.
- Wiring is original to the house and the house is more than 20–25 years old.
- Rubber or cloth-insulated wiring — common in older Saddar properties — which degrades and cracks over time in a way modern PVC-insulated cable doesn't.
Any one of these on its own might just need a targeted repair. Several together usually mean the underlying wiring has aged past the point where patching makes sense.
What a full rewire actually involves
A complete rewire isn't just pulling new cable through the same paths. We start with a load calculation — mapping out what each room actually needs (lighting, general sockets, kitchen appliances, air conditioning) — and size the new distribution board and circuits to match that, rather than just replicating what was there before.
From there, the process is:
- Circuit planning. We separate lighting, general power, and kitchen circuits, and check whether the existing distribution board needs a full upgrade to modern MCB/RCD protection.
- Conduit routing. New PVC conduit is chased into walls or run through ceiling voids, keeping cable protected and out of sight rather than surface-mounted.
- Cable pulling and termination. Cable is pulled through the new conduit and terminated at switches, sockets, and the distribution board.
- Testing. Every circuit is load-tested individually before we call the job finished — not just checked for continuity.
For a two- to three-bedroom Saddar house, this typically takes 4–6 days depending on how much wall chasing is needed and whether ceilings are being opened up at the same time.
Minimizing damage to walls and finishes
The most common concern homeowners raise is wall damage. We chase conduit into existing plaster rather than surface-mounting trunking wherever possible, and patch chased sections before we leave — you'll need to repaint the affected wall sections, but we don't leave exposed conduit runs or unfinished patching behind.

Generator and UPS wiring during a rewire
Saddar, like most of Rawalpindi, deals with regular load-shedding, so most full rewires now include changeover wiring for a generator or UPS at the same time — it's far cheaper to plan this into the new distribution board than to retrofit it later. If you already have a generator or UPS, tell us during the site visit so we can size the changeover switch correctly.

Do I need to move out during a rewire?
Not usually for a phased rewire — we can often work room by room so essential circuits stay live. For a full-house rewire done in one pass, expect the power to be off for parts of each day; we'll walk you through the schedule before starting.
